We only arrived home half an hour ago and I already miss the garden! We were fortunate to be blessed with good weather and throughly enjoyed having full use of the beautiful garden, particularly after multiple lockdowns with no garden at home. The village of Wellow is tranquil and the bridge/ford is a short stroll down the hill. The kitchen is compact but we knew this when booking and there is everything you need to prepare a meal plus two fridges for storage. We spent most of our time out sightseeing or in the garden, but there is ample space in the living area and a large dining table. We had a few problems on arrival that weren't the norm for the property, but these were addressed very quickly and with good grace. John and Emma are very friendly, helpful and genuinely lovely hosts. Being surrounded by Emma's stunning art is just the icing on the cake! Jill and family

Our nine day stay in Wellow was just what we needed after spending months in lockdown. The cottage is very well presented and the outside space wonderful and views impressive. Wellow is a lovely village. Highly recommend the local pub, Fox & Badger, where we ate a number of times during our stay. The community-run village shop is also well worth a visit. Location wise it's offers the perfect mix of tranquillity yet close to a large supermarket, and about 15 minutes' drive/taxi to Bath. You're also close to Frome and a number of excellent National Trust sites such as Dyrham Park. J

Super little cottage with lovely views out of the fields and a great location meters from the pub and the playground. Emma and John were brilliant hosts! Sally

The Art Cottage is a really lovely place to stay. It’s really well set up and presented. We had a great time staying in the beautiful cottage in the delightful village of Wellow. We really enjoyed finding cold wine and milk on our arrival and John communicated well all the way through. Jesse

Thank you John, we had a really good time , specially in the garden, lovely place!

“This little cottage provided a good base for our family of 4. It was very cosy and so stylish! Very relaxing and quiet. The kitchen was a little small but still suitable for home cooking /baking and then we discovered the huge fridge in the utility room. The garden would be wonderful in spring / summer. Our boys shared the single bed in the small bedroom and loved it. In the village, the Ford (ideal for Pooh stick) and the playground were very popular with our boys. Highly recommended.”

“What a little gem this is. My son and I had a wonderful stay at The Art Cottage. Lovely cottage, in a pretty village surrounded by wonderful countryside just outside Bath. John is a great host and I look forward to returning soon. Would love to come in the summer to make use of the lovely garden and views.” Claire

Peaceful and beautiful countryside with lots of great walks. The food at the village pub 'The Fox and Badger' was amazing and it was handy to have a village shop. John was a fantastic host, very helpful and answered my questions immediately. We loved our stay at The Art Cottage and hope to return.” Nicola

Thanks John, we had a lovely time at Art Cottage. I’m sure we will be back soon for another stay!

“The Art Cottage has a great location in the village. Close to the super pub and convenient village shop. We spent a couple of days exploring Bath and the surrounding countryside from the Art Cottage with ease, safe in the knowledge we had a cosy and warm cottage to come back to. Well recommended!” Mr&Mrs C

“Characterful cottage with beautiful views over the valley. Well equipped with tumble dryer and washing machine as well as fridge freezer in separate utility area. Kitchen tiny but adequate, maybe needs a microwave. Beds really comfortable, small single and a large double. Cosy and nicely furnished in “shabby chic” style. Everything you need for a lovely break in the country. Big garden at the back which would be delightful in spring and summer. Wellow is a pretty village with a good pub where you’ll find excellent food. There is a beautiful church, a medieval Packhorse bridge and loads of places to walk. Easy to get to the Odd Down Park and Ride for the beautiful city of Bath- my favourite city in all of the UK. May be a teeny bit biased as I was born there. .”

“We had a wonderful time at the unique Art Cottage. It was a beautiful place with so much character, both inside and out - we felt at home immediately. John was a fantastic host, very timely and always helpful. All the extra touches make the stay very special. We would definitely recommend for a small group wanting to be close to bath but enjoy the tranquility of the lovey village of Wellow.”

“A lovely cosy cottage in the heart of the village and only a few yards from the Fox & Badger which has excellent food and lovely staff. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully decorated with lots of paintings by Emma on the walls. There was a bottle of wine in the fridge along with some milk. Tea, coffee and sugar were provided. You won't be disappointed if you stay there.”

“The Art cottage is a beautiful cottage and the walls are adorned with paintings from Emma who is our hostess. We couldn’t meet her but I’m sure she is very talented. The village of Wellow reminded us of Bibury, the autumn hues are splendid. I would love to go back in summer. You have your car then Bath is just 15 minutes from Wellow. The cottage is spotlessly clean and is ideal for a family of four. There is enough supply of duvet and throws to keep you warm. Remember to read the instructions and set the heating to continuous during the cold winter nights. If you have kids, the TV has YouTube and Netflix to keep them entertained. I would have love to sit and gaze at the garden and scape in summer. Just be mindful there are no street lights in the night, because we drive after work we were a bit surprised only because we drive after work. But I had read this before and carried torches. A beautiful elegant and artsy setup for a weekend away.”

“Hello John, Thank you for hosting us. We had no clue how beautiful the Art cottage would be. The village of Wellow is very beautiful. The spot clean house was like a haven for my small kids. The proximity to Bath helped us pop in and out of Bath in no time. Your Wife’s painting are extremely beautiful and when we return to Bath we would like to stay here again. They add a beautiful touch of class and elegance to the whole setup. Can’t imagine how welcoming it would be in summer. We also appreciate the rain water harvesting at the cottage. Thank you again!! Best Regards, Pallavi & Guru”

“A really nice, beautifully decorated space in a lovely village. The Art Barn had everything we needed for our family stay and it was an easy 20 minute drive to visit our friends in Bath. The pub around the corner (Fox and Badger) had a great atmosphere and served good food, although we could easily have cooked up a nice meal in the kitchen.” Carl

October 19

“A beautiful village in striking distance of Bath. Very comfortable beds & peaceful space.”

“We had a lovely stay at The Art Cottage. Wellow is a small village and really quiet, and the cottage was warm and stylishly decorated throughout with Emma's paintings. We cooked in for two nights - the TV is internet-connected for catch-up or Netflix. On Saturday we walked round to eat at the Fox and Badger - only 50 yards away but no noise, you could hear a pin drop in the cottage. We visited Lacock on Saturday, only half an hour away and a full day out. On Sunday we did a walk from the cottage in the morning, then went to Dyrham House in the afternoon, also about half an hour by car. Bath centre is 15 minutes away. Note that the local shop is closed on Sundays so buy your supplies beforehand. Thank you John and Emma for a lovely quiet country weekend.” Alan

“We had a great time at Art Cottage for a girly catch up. The location is great- really pretty village setting, close to Bath. The Cottage itself is beautifully done, decorated with Emma’s wonderful art and had everything we needed for a lovely couple of day’s. Would recommend and will definitely visit again.” Rhian

We've just returned from a brilliant New Years Eve with you. Perfect location and accommodation. The pub was a hoot, Bath on the doorstep, the walks were everywhere and we enjoyed visiting your church and the Long Barrow, Saxon burial ground. Very interesting as well as comfortable. We are delighted also with the print we purchased from the cottage - an inspiring reminder. We will be back. Family R. 2/1/19

What a find. We will be back for sure. The Gregsons

“A great base for exploring Bath and all the wonderful villages, country houses and gardens nearby. Then back to the cottage for peace and serenity. Our hosts left us alone which is how we prefer it. Great sleep on divine bed, excellent lounge area and the kitchen, although compact, had all we needed for a short stay. The pub in Wellow, the Fox & Badger, provides good meals and excellent real ale. Just need to ensure you bring food provisions with you as options in the village are very limited. Would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful, enjoyable stay in the Somerset countryside.” Graham/Australia

“John and Emma’s cottage is just lovely! Stunningly decorated like a boutique hotel the photos are completely accurate. The walls are covered in Emma’s stunning art and her studio is right next door which we were invited to see. As hosts they could not have been nicer, even inviting us to a showing of Emma’s art back in London next month. The gardens are beautiful and they left us a bottle of wine to enjoy on arrival. The pub, village shop and children’s playground are a short walk away. And Bath was only 20 minutes drive. A perfect country getaway spot.” Z & J

“What a find! An elegant, cosy cottage tucked away in a pretty valley just a stones' throw from Bath. Honestly, a fantastic location. The village of Wellow itself is delightful (with an excellent pub) and there are lots of lovely walks to be had in the surrounding countryside. The views alone across the enormous garden are absolutely idyllic. John and Emma, the hosts, were instantly communicative when booking and also extremely helpful during our stay, offering all sorts of useful local tips and advice. They have clearly put a lot of thought into creating a very comfortable environment for their guests and the attention to detail is seriously impressive - from the soft beds to the well-equipped kitchen. You really couldn't ask for more. We came away rested, uplifted and determined to return. To top it all, Emma is a wonderful artist and we liked her paintings so much, she's now painting one for us! Highly recommended. A very happy place to be.” Mr RB

What a beautiful place. Really comfy beds, amazing view, incredibly atmospheric. Private and yet in the heart of a perfect English village and only took us just over 10 minutes to get to Bath. The local pub Fox&Badger is great - fab food and one minutes walk away. We will come back again.

“Emma and Johns cottage is a rare find! It’s simply beautiful! Fully equipped, and spacious with everything and more! Its a classy “home away from home” with uninterrupted views of the garden and valley. The interior is immaculate and it was a joy to admire Emma’s wonderful artwork on the wall. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough to anyone visiting the surrounding countryside or like us for those wanting to visit Bath without staying in the City. Last but by no means least- Emma and John are fantastic hosts; caring and incredibly attentive. We arrived late due to the adverse weather and we couldn’t have revived a warmer welcome at 11.15pm! We most definitely will return!”

February 2018
“Excellent stay at " The Art Cottage" very well equipped with everything you need, John & Emma were very welcoming hosts, hope to return soon. Highly recommend the Fox and Badger.”

February 2018
We stayed for a short weekend in the Art House and had a great time. We were two adults and three kids and it perfectly fits this company size (2 kids in a sofa bed and one in a small separate bedroom). The house interior is brand new and spotless clean, there is a nice garden outside and a well equipped small kitchen for basic food preparation - we only used the French Press coffee maker. John and Emma the hosts were super nice and quick to respond - they live in a house behind the Art Cottage, but you have complete privacy. The village itself is conveniently located 6 miles from Bath and has a nice atmosphere and a good pub where you can get dinner (reservations are required). Overall, very recommended.

Great place for a relaxing weekend! We hope to come back in the summer

February 2018
What a stunning place the Art Cottage is. We loved our weekend here. Very comfy beds and pillows. Everything you could want, plus lovely views from bedroom and sitting room. The Art in the cottage is enchanting and we intend to commission Emma to paint our view at home when the spring comes. The village is just perfect and the pub does amazing food. Thank you so much. See you in the summer.
